Immigration 101: An Education and Fundraising Event in Support of our Immigrant Neighbors is to educate about the current state of the immigration system in the United States. It is also meant to raise funds for CILC to provide legal representation and consultations for people in Wisconsin, and especially the Sauk County area, who are facing deportation. Most immigration deportation cases are civil cases, for which defendants are not entitled to government appointed counsel and too often are left to defend themselves. When represented by an immigration attorney, defendants are more than 3 times as likely to be granted relief. CILC has a proven track record of providing relief for immigrants in Wisconsin and Sauk County swept up in the government’s recent haste to deport noncitizens.
